I recently purchased a cordless Dremel 800 rotary tool. I'll be going back and doing a lot more sanding/polishing in the hard-to-reach corners of the structure. Until now, they had been left a bit rough.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of the aeration fans while I was making them (wish I had)... they were also made using the mold technique. Each fan consists of three molded pieces that are superglued together.

Regarding above, another Mike (Mike Rose) has been working on what he calls Grainzilla, and has doen many presentations on it at RPM meets and the Craftsman Structure Show... it's a site to see, and similar in construct to what you're doing. He also had so much trouble with railing...
