We certainly like our railways, there are hundreds of preserved steam locos and hundreds of miles of preserved 'Heritage' railway all run by volunteers. Ours is one of the biggest by track length, number of locomotives and paying passengers (half a million a year). We have some full time staff as we...
Sorry yes. I am talking about the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. I am a volunteer in the Perm Way section http://www.nymr.co.uk/ We play trains 1:1 over 18 miles of track plus some running rights on the 'real' line down to Whitby
Our stations on the NYMR are 1:1 Dioramas I suppose. Grosmount is as it would have been in the Early 60s and Goathland is as it was in the 1920s, Levisham is restored to around 1912 and Pickering is being restored to its 1930s appearance. Volunteer staff wear the uniforms and clothing appropriate to...
That's our own Track Tamper as well :) Poor old Bridge 30 was worn out, it was an old Victorian Casti Rion structure built in the days when the trains were a lot smaller and lighter than the ones we run over it today. We shut down over the winter to do heavy work on the locomotives and the Way. This...
I work as a volunteer here http://www.nymr.co.uk/ I work on the the Permenant Way and Signal systems. Reballasting, replacing sleepers (ties) etc. We have 18 miles of our own track, plus sidings and a yard. It runs across the Moors, over a swamp and through a forest. We have running rights over main...
On your lifting section the ends of the track seem very voulnerable to damage. Have you had any problems wit it? In the UK we build a lot of sectional exhibition layouts. What we do is span the track over the joint, solder the rail to the heads of brass screws sunk into the baseboard and at a height...
I am not worried by delicate parts, I have built a lot of fine resin and etched kitsin 1/35 scale. I do think that on some of the parts it will just be so much less hassle to use wire. will look just as good if not better and will save hours of time
STarted the build but I have come across an unexpected problem. I usualy use liquid poly cement applied with a brush when I build a plastic kit. With these being pre-painted, something I haven't come across in my 'usual' hobby of Military Modelling I wasn't expecting the paint to disolve where the g...
I can't tell from your picture, but other kinds of Proto-2000 freight cars have come with a Life-Like clone of a Kadee MKD-5. They're ok except for the plastic finger for the knuckle spring. This type of knuckle spring has a reputation for losing it's springiness after a while, and many people repl...
