Jeffries Point Scratchbuild

If it isn't a kit, or won't look like it when you're done, then post it here!

That IS a pretty cool casting. Whose is it? Any packaging details you could share?

Hi Norm,

The package (which comes with 2 castings) is: Scale Structures LTD. #2376 "medium size gas meter". They have a website btw. check them out- lots of castings. I bought mine at the local hobby shop.

I tried a new idea for my cardstock roof- maybe someone has done it before but I've not seen it.... photo to come.....I think it makes a nice difference, although subtle....
BTW, is anyone bringing their projects to CSS10 to work on? I'm thinking about it and was wondering if anyone else was...

ok, so what i did was add 1x3 (scale stock) strips to the edges of the cardstock roof material. I really like the way it looks. i've not seen anyone do this before- but I'm sure they have. I just glued them on and hit them a few times with A&I.

i've got to "lay" the steel roofing down. Its put on with Goo, but I will use ACC to keep it closer to the roof.

Bob,

Your scratch build is coming along very nicely. Fantastic job! :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

I've used the 1X's on the side of cardstock in the past and you are right, it does make a big difference in the look of the kit/build.

Yes, I totally agree- its such a small detail that really improves the look of the roof edges. The 1x3 is pretty much the same thickness as the cardstock, but adding them appears to make the roof thicker.- more substantial.
well, tomorrow I head to CSS10!!!!

I must admit to never thinking about adding the wood on the edge of the roof like this, it looks great. :-bd

What happened was this: a while ago I had cut some cardstock for a roof and needed to tweak it a little so I sanded the edge. Well, if you sand cardstock it loses its sharp edges and I thought it looked kinda crappy when I looked at it. Then I thought to myself that in the real world there is a fascia board against the roof rafters, so why don't I just put a fascia board on the cardstock. Viola!!! I really liked the effect after I added the strips. Just hit them with some coats of AI.
Ok, all checked in the hotel... ready for CSS10 in the morning!!!

Ok, who is like me in this: whenever you go to a store you always are looking at items in such a way as to if you could use them in your modeling? alright, I know that we all do that! Anyway, I just found some neat little roof details (well, I think that they are cool) and I got 200 of them for $2.00 at Walmart. The thing is, thats not what I bought them for, I just looked at them when I got home and thought hmmmm......
I will post a photo and you guys can tell me what you think!
