What's on your HO work bench??

Postby fifer » Mon Mar 19, 2012 12:07 am

I am working on my first Campbell kit since the 1980's.
Ouincy Engine Shed will house the HH600 on my switching layout. I have cut and applied all of the corrigated siding and done all the wall framing and working on the service pit.

Mike...

I'm crashing out several projects this week in preparation for the spring mini-meet in Boise this coming weekend.

I'm finishing up a trolley steeple cab loco that I have been working on all winter.

Also two trolley box cars that I scratch built and an entry for the junk box contest.

Every meet we have some topic competition for the popular vote. We have done stuff like what can you build for under 20 bux. We also did a contest last fall where we all built Jimmy's Roxbury Roofing and everyone grunted it into something very distinct.

This time the only criteria is that it has to come out of your junk box. Every modeler had a junk box. My wife would argue that most of my railroad room would fit that description.

Right now I'm trying to finish up J. Keens and Pressman's. Pressman's needs the roof and details. J. Keens needs the dock and details. I have been putting off the dock as I only have a small picture to go by. For some reason Jimmy left the instructions for the dock off of the instructions... :-\

Over the weekend, I worked on Telco and RR pole lines, so mostly painting insulators. Tonight is Planning Board, but I'm about done with the Clam Box scene. Next I'll probably start the Sylvan resin barn and CLD laser-cut wood New England Farmhouse that will go between Rt. 1A and the Little River marsh.

Frankly, nothing was touched on the workbench at all last week, but here's a pair of updates. I need to work on the engine, including painting the flywheel, and then finish the stonework on the stand (SS Ltd kit, very nice kit!):

I also made a steam gauge for the boiler, using one of those needle covers I toss out every morning:

The smokestack parts were bashed from some old MDC/Roundhouse loco stack parts. The white "peg" is carved to fit inside 1/4" Evergreen tube, so that'll fit exactly and stay in place once I'm ready to put the stack on the boiler.

Nothing, will participate in the upcoming contest though. Don't really want to build things till the layout is further along, hate building things just to sit on a shelf!

Nothing on my workbench right now except the new iPad. :D We're planning a trip for next month and I'm kinda busy with that now. Waiting for Jimmy's contest as well.
