What an exciting week in Colrado Springs. I dragged my beast of a diorama (36" x 42") of the sawmill complex at Pino Grande. This was basically don from Brett Gallant's Sierra West Scale Models kit; Twin Mills at Deer Creek. Jaime has posted some beautiful photos, on the 2nd page of this thread: http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topi ... C_ID=27081 I entered the contest Wednesday afternoon, saw the manufacturer' exhibits, did some clinics, and actually flew back to Minneapolis for a friday night wedding, and then flew back to Colorado Springs in time to hang with Brett and have lunch and then rested until the 7pm Convention Wrap-up.
I was really excited when my diorama was chosen first place in dioramas, and also was named Best in Show, the Caboose Hobbies award ( a beautiful oil painting by Eric Lindberg) . I have won several Firsts and Best of Shows at NMRA Regional conventions but never had competed at the national level. It aeas hoot!!
I saw a lot of you at the show- KP (Kris), Friscomike, Mike Chambers, Scott, Jimmie, Brian from BEST, Larry Baker, Dave Revelia, Brian Nolan, Jon Addison, and several others. I saw Jaime once but didn't get to talk to him as he was so busy taking all of those fabulous pictures. Anyway, it was a thrill and I haven't come down to earth yet. Thanks to a lot of you who followed along on the build thread, and made great suggestions.
