South River Model Works Cambridge Crossing Build

South River Model Works Cambridge Crossing Build

Postby ReadingBob » Wed Mar 31, 2010 6:15 pm

Okay, I haven't actually done anything yet except to read the instructions but I figured I'd start my next build thread with a few photo's of the kit contents from this beautiful South River Model Works Cambridge Crossings extravaganza. Once again our good friend ACL1504 (Tom) has entrusted me to build one of his prized possessions and I'm honored to be able to do so. I sure hope I can do it justice! :ympray: This is my first ever SRMW build. I did own a SRMW kit at one time but I put it up for adoption when I realized I'd never probably never have the real estate on a layout to utilize it. Here are some photo's of the contents of this particular kit.

That's a lot of stuff! :-o My first task will be to clean up and prime all the window castings and the detail castings. Then I'll start working on the Hotel. This will be a three part build - the hotel first, then the station and finally the two small businesses. I'll be building the structures but not a diorama. Tom will find a home for all of them on his layout I'm sure. Tips, comments, encouragement, criticisms, jokes, tall tales, etc. are always welcome. :D Don't expect this to be a fast build. [-x Be patient! :-w Thanks for following along!

Bob,

Tom is one lucky guy to have such a friend build this kit. I have built several of Southriver Modelworks kits and must say that every bit of time and effort that you put into the kit is worth it. This will be a showstopper on Tom's layout. I look forward to your progress.

OMG! What have I done to my good friend Reading Bob? I saw a red wine glass in the picture and it probably should be a bottle! :D :D

Frank/Erieman writes, Tom is one lucky guy to have such a friend build this kit. Yes, Frank I agree! However, I need to buy some stock in the local BBQ as it appears Bob will be eating free for quite some time.

Bob, I'm in no hurry for the structures so any time next week is good by me! =)) =)) =)) April Fools! The week after next week is fine. :D

Thanks for posting.

I thought that was his A&I stain.

Must be the '97 Van Gelder merlot.

Deception. I thought that the red wine was an integral part of the kit :D .
Great project, please post more pics during the build of it.

Are you guys making fun of my glass of wine? :D A glass of wine is great on the workbench (unless you spill it :o ). Unlike a cold soda or even a glass of water with ice in it the can/bottle/glass doesn't sweat and get water all over the place. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Actually it's the '98 Van Gelder Cabernet Sauvignon. :D

Thanks everyone for the interest in following along. I'll be sure to post some pictures once I get rolling. I'm really looking forward to this weekend when I can spend a few hours on this!

Bob,

I haven't seen build thread of this kit anywhere on the net. Even pictures of the built up kit are very rare. I will follow your thread with big interest.

Are walls of the hotel made of resin or hydrocal? I am very interested in your methods of painting and weathering them.

As for the glass of wine. Its content could make good weathering solution for brick walls :D

Hi Bob.....look forward to following along. I'm jealous....I wish I had this kit. It's one SRMW kit that I try to purchase every so often when it pops up on eBay but the prices always seem to skyrocket to high for me!! Maybe someday I'll get it.... Anyway, I'll enjoy following your build.
