SRMW Martin Machine Build

Oftentimes grout has portland cement mixed into it,which can corrode metal (e.g. track). The advantage of the SpectraLock stuff is that it has no adhesive in the colored sand part of the system.

Dave

I struggled to find coloured grout let alone a more complicated system in the UK so I guess it's something I'll have to google for here!

Thanks

If you use conventional grout, just keep it away from metal, and you should be OK.

I'm still doing the finishing bits on the building and surround with quite bit more to go. First up I stretched out some clingfilm then scraped some silicon adhesive down the cling film to make the falls over the dam. I need to leave some gaps to show the work under the dam or there was no point doing it all!

The waterfall is in.

I hope the top is level for the dam. I put a bit of mod podge at the top to act as a dam on the non-waterfall sections.

One thing I changed from Bob's model was a door like the prototype and stairs down to it. The top platform didn't look wonky in real life!

I put some grout over the ballast but think I will end up doing another coat of grout.

I also did the jib crane (forgot to take a photo) and the sluice gate:

Looking great, Kathy!! :-bd :-bd

I love the gaps in the waterfall so you can see the detail underneath through the flowing water. :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

I agree with David. Great idea to leave some gaps in the waterfall to show the detail of the dam. :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

Looking very nice Kathy!

It's great to watch this one come together bit by bit. I'm really enjoying watching your progress. I wouldn't worry too much about the wonky - there's plenty of wonky where I live at the moment!

Cheers, Mark.

Hi Kathy

Good job so far - I'm watching really closely as I have a similar scene I am doing and I'm hoping to emulate your process. Please keep up wit the descriptions and photos. Thanks!

You talked about wanting something finer than fine WS ballast, I haven't tried grinding up WS stuff but for real stuff like decomposed granite I use a thrift store coffee grinder (the powered type), the more you grind the finer it gets, in fact they were so cheap I bought a second one of better quality than the first as they are cheap like under $5 (guess no one wants a used coffee grinders).
