Rolling Home - A Housetruck

Postby DaveInTheHat » Sun Jan 15, 2012 10:03 pm

I'm starting with a Classic Metal Works International. I used super glue debonder to get one of the wheels off and it blistered the paint, fogged the glass and screwed up some of the plastic. So, I ended up repainting the truck. I wasn't planning on that. Since I stripped all the paint off I removed the running lights and blinkers. I've started the house section.

No. At least I hope it doesn't turn out that way.

Here's a picture of the book that I'm using as a reference. I'm sort of taking a lot of ideas from the truck on the cover.

A little progress. Here's a test fit. I added a lot of bracing to the inside and got the floor done.

Very interesting little project Dave.

One thing - would the side door not open at the floor level of the housetruck? (I have pretty much no experience with these things, but would have thought it logical.)

Cheers, Mark.

That is cool, what era were these used? Would something like this be out of place in 1960, I'm thinking it is a 70"s thing, hope I'm wrong.

What a great scene this will give, good job.

The opening on the side is for a window. The door will be on the back.
The book was published in 1979. I guess there were a bunch of this around in the 60's and 70's. From what I've come up with searching the internet there are still quite a few around. I did find a web site that showed one under construction that is only about 3 miles from my house.
This is a fun project. I'm thinking about building 2 or 3 more and maybe a school bus conversion.
