No weathered wood or rust today. My granddaughter Violet's first Valentine's day, she is six months old and already loves for Grandpa to read her bedtime stories. We usually finish with "How to Build Realistic Model Railroad Scenery, 3rd edition" by D. Frary. Puts her to sleep every time. Have a good greatest-holiday-Hallmark-ever-invented.

Very cute granddaughter there, runner.

I was in East TN last weekend. So I took some photos of some weathered structures. Above you see a barn with lifted boards and visible nail markings. Well, the nail markings were visible to me when I took the photo. I made the photo and edited it with my iPhone. Perhaps the nail markings are not so obvious. But, they are there if you look closely. Anyway, the purpose of the photo was for me to have a reference to lifted boards. Also, notice the lighting rod and ground wire.

Each year on Valentine's Day I post a link (here or elsewhere) to the YouTube video I made of the day I proposed to my number 1, Lisa:

Happy Valentine's day gang! Be sure to go by your sweetheart something of value.

Motors are okay. I've met Mrs. Ralph and you're not allowed switches! =))

Jaime...

I'm speechless. Strauss, Jenkins, Handel? Got some heavy hitters there. Surely you could've thrown in a little of the Carpenters?

My Lisa and I met on V-day 27 years ago. The only tune going through my head right now is Oh Fortuna from Carmina Burana.

Have a nice Vday!

Sorry, they didn't have video cameras way back when I proposed. (1998) Okay, maybe they did, but they were twice the size of a South River Modelworks red box and just as heavy!

Morning all,

You're grand daughter's a real cutie Mike.

The first time I took my wife out was on Valentine's Day. I proposed to her on Valentines Day. We would have gotten married on Valentines Day but it fell in the middle of the week the year we got married. Last Friday we celebrated our 22nd Anniversary. :D

Continuing with the pictures from this past weekends SBG sojourn over to Odessa:

Morning, all.
Cute granddaughter, Runner. Thank goodness she didn't get grampa's looks. :D Jaime, at least Lisa knew you were crazy when she said yes. Video cameras didn't exist when I proposed, we barely had daguerrotypes. Need to go move the couple of inches of snow from yesterday, work later. Happy VD! @};-

Color matching for a diorama project.

Hey Runner,
That's a cute kid. She'll fall asleep much faster if you show her my videos. They're real snorers.

Yesterday I went on the hunt for double sided carpet tape here on Cape Cod. It was almost a wasted day until I stumbled into one of the last old-fashioned hardware stores in New England. They had it, and in several roll sizes. I'm going to use it to lay HOn30 track on blue foam. I've had really good luck with the tape in the past - I have track that's been mounted on tape for over 10 years and never a problem. It's simple, easy and quick. As soon as the track is down you can start painting the rail and ballasting. It's not effected by any of my scenery techniques.

Happy Valentine's Day - Be Mine, as they say.
