Boy, reading back through this thread makes me realize how low in the Kiddy League I am.
I've only done one scratch build and it's just a dinky little roadside fruit and vegetable stand!

It is dinky. Sometimes the small stuff is harder than the big stuff. I like it. Those '40 Ford pick-ups are getting hard to find.
