Laserkit - Springfield Depot - N Scale

Laserkit - Springfield Depot - N Scale

Postby Rail and Tie » Mon Feb 20, 2012 2:12 am

Hi Folks,

Did a build today of the Springfield Depot by AMB-Laserkit.

I have had this kit for a while and decided to tackle it today. Overall everything is very crisp in the cutting of the kit and very clean for how it is prepared. This one has been around for a while, but it is a very cute little kit.

Overall, the instructions are well prepared and cover it all if you follow them. The only thing that I disagree with is that the windows and doors should be installed before assembly of the walls like said in the instructions. A little too much slop in the windows and door mutons, but as long as you keep to one side, they turn out square.

The standard kit contents picture. No stiffener material included, but a good kit overall.

There is no stiffner material added in the kit or described. it is definately needed with the scribed siding if you are painting in advance!!

Though I don't like peal and stick parts, they do work. I added glue to assure no movement from heat and sagging in the future as an assurance.

Everything goes together as per the instructions so I am not going to do an exact SBS assembly.

There are a few tricks to assemblying the bay window. Be sure to carefully look at the instructions. This is a place that the adhesive backing come in handy. I still added addtional glue to get everything solid. If I did this again, I would use CA cement instead of white glue.

The trim goes on easily, though a little thick for scale... hard to do scale in N!!! Some coats of paint on the edges should make it look better.

Also, the windows are easily modifiable to be in a closed or open position.

Assembly at this point would usually merrit some interior detail, or dividers and painting for lighting, etc. I found that it all went togethe quite well with the 2 part base/foundation. self squaring sides and bottom.

I forgot a step in the instructions and did not include the valley between the dormer and roof. Not going back to fix that, and I think it looks ok in this scale.....

Crisp detail for the roof ends. Paint them first before you install them for maximum effect.

Great job, like your roof and chimney, and the detail in the bay window and roof ends is great for an N-scale kit, I'm also building an AMB kit at the moment , the 2 story section house. Pictures later.
