HYDRO-GAL

I just got my first hydrocal kit. It's Downtown Deco's, Horowitz Garment Company. I thought I'd start small... :D It's a big box and I haven't opened it yet. Maybe I need a drink first :D

Just follow Randy's tutorial at his website. It's the same one he showed here awhile ago. Maybe you should have tried one of his smaller kits first. :) :) Just go for it!

You'll do great. Like Jeff said, just follow Randy's instructions. I really enjoyed applying the washes of paint and seeing the effects they produced. If (when) I got them on a little too heavy I just diluted them with with water. It's very forgiving process. But...a drink does sound good. Go ahead. Indulge. :D

With your talent, Candy, you're sure to love Downtown Deco kits. Their castings are just great and they take paint and weathering unlike any other material. Having built most of their offerings in O scale, I can vouch for one "watch-it" suggestion. Be careful how you put the castings down on the work surface. I'm not sure I've built any of the kits without cracking at least one wall. Maybe it's been the size of the O scale castings or maybe I'm just a klutz. But, don't get all worked up about it. They will glue together very easily and the resulting "crack" if it shows will add even more realism to a plaster wall. Looking forward to your progress reports.

I have to start one of Randy's kits soon also. Best advice I can give you at this point is DON'T DROP ANYTHING.

I usually work on a large, thick, sheet of glass. Maybe it's not a good idea with this stuff. What should I use?

How about one of the self-sealing mats most of us seem to use, They're a little softer than glass.
