That's a nice looking set of buildings. Only one of their their kits I have built with brickwork is Camden
Mercantile and I really enjoyed it. Although I modified it a little to suit my use.

Be interesting to see how this one goes!

..okay, the postman delivered the "test" build of the NEW RDA Indian River Moulding & Millwork Company Kit....the first thing that jumps right out at you is the NEW & IMPROVED instructions!!! I have heard from more than one forum, customer, friend, that the RDA kits left alot to the imagination with the lack of instructions.....NOT SO WITH THIS ONE...there are 16 pages of written instructions, pictures and exploded drawings of these structures.... I believe this kit and the instructions are in part of a colloboration with Matt Guthrie and Jonathan Carr to continue to offer new looks to the RDA line....and at my first look with this one, I believe they have done a good job....now, the proof will be in the actual construction following along with the instructions provided, and that is why they pay me the big bucks... , to run through it and post and give them feedback....I believe Jonathon is a reclusive viewer of this forum, so maybe this will help to bring him out and join in as I build this one.....

....more pics etc later....the grand-babies are on the way for the weekend, so this, trains, and the characters of this forum will take a back seat.... until a bit later.....

Looks like an interesting kit Jeff.

I have the plaster version of Hermansons mill sitting half finished on my workbench and am really itching to get back to it and finish it up. I cut it up and spliced it back together in a totally different fashion. Getting things to line up was a lot of work, but the stone work is fantastic. I would love to see a new selection of improved kits fron RDA out there! Looking forward to your progress on this one.

...a little quiet time so I took some time to show the obligatory parts pictures....

...there are alot of pieces to this kit, and a nice addition of laser cut parts. When I start the actual assembly, I will start with the smaller/easier of the buildings, and will post pics as I progress......

....as I move into the main building, I think I will do some interior detailing of it....

Maybe I missed it, but I can't tell what the material is that the walls are made out of - styrene? Plaster?

The new and improved instructions are very much needed, as has been said. I've built a couple of RDA kits in the past and had to be, ah, "creative" with my build.... Their little gas station with the tile roof is really cool and went together well.

Looking forward to following your build with this kit.

Al..no, I didn't mention the material earlier, but like most of the RDA kits today, this one is mostly styrene, there are a few laser cut components, and some cast details. I believe the only kit from RDA that is plaster today is their Hermanson Mill. (which, I believe is still one of the best kits available....)

I have Hermanson's in both Plaster and Plastic. The plaster version has sharper stonework. In both kits, the window openings are not as precise as I'd want, and the window castingss are frankly, rather crude (outsize mullions). Jim Mooney (Bar Mills) gave me a set of laser-cut windows for this kit (I believe he was working on a plaster version which met an unfortunate end.) I don't know if Bar Mills would be willing to custom-cut them, but it might be worth asking.

...Dave, from what I know of Jim, Art and the gang....Jim, et all, would probably not hesitate to replace those custom windows....pm me and I will give you Jim's email address if you'd like.....I have also been told that Don Tichy has done a set of windows and doors for the Hermanson Mill, but can not verify that......

It sure looks like a great set of buildings. To big for what I have in mind for my layout but I'm curious about the foot print. Does it mention this in the directions? Looking forward to your build.
