I could not resist. I had to peek at the Jimmy D. special posted the evening of 12/23/09:

This character has 0 prior feedback. This means a new eBay ID. There is only one photo and it is not a good photo. The starting bid is $10,000. The seller accepts no returns. The bozo has a lousy command of the English language (perhaps the intent is to snare a simple-minded buyer). There is little to no description of the item. I'm surprised Jimmy found it. The seller ought to give Jimmy a finder's fee.

Anyway, what goes through these people's minds when they list this stuff?

That listing for the whole collection of South River kits is back.

The listing did not change. There is still no detailed account of all the kits. The seller still wants $21,000. Perhaps he can trade half his collection to the bozo with the "line L" trains. What on earth is an "line L" train?

It's like a bad episode of the Twilight Zone.

After I hit the submit button it hit me. "line L" = Lionel.

This is scary. I am starting to understand these crazies.

This may be silly, but I'd use "Lionel" in place of "line L"

Hey, he was figuring on inflation but with all things electronic, unless it is extremely rare or someone just needs it to finish a collection, the value goes down over time. With the advent of e-bay, a lot of rare items all of a sudden went down in value. An example is FSM kits of an older vintage, I remember when to get a kit for under $200.00 was a real find. Now I will not spend over $100.00 and have turned away from ones I already have even though they are selling for less than $80.00. And if you really want to look at price drops look at brass (barring again the realy rare pieces). I have also found that value added items can go for a premium, have seen Jordan kits go for over $50.00 built up by a real pro.

Value added items. I used to know a fellow that did beautiful work on the Tichy tank cars. I bought several for $15 - $25 each.
