John Layout photos

Postby JMancuso » Sun May 02, 2010 5:46 pm

I thought I'd post some photos of my layout, which is very much un-finished. The photos are primarily selected to give a feel for the "lay out" of the layout in my home office. The dimensions are 11' x 12' around 3 walls with a peninsula. There are 3 main areas of interest...a harbor area with a small yard and some industries, a mill with multiple structures and a burner, and an additional rural depot and service area. My favorite scenes, however, are the "between scenes" which will feature minimal track and extensive forests, changes in elevation and, eventually, some puddles and "dying" snowbanks. I've got a file drawer full of kits to populate the harbor area into a detailed, complex, multi-level scene over the next few years and also to replace some of the present "place-holder" kits as my skills improve. I've also got 2 beautiful kits built by Reading Bob ready to go.

Your feedback is certainly welcome - forgive the lack of weathering and inconsistencies in rolling stock/time period for now...I know!

John

Hi John,

It's nice to see some pic's of your layout out here on the forum. Both your layout and Tom's (ACL1504) have certainly gotten me motivated to build a new one (I'm slowly cleaning out the space for it). It's certainly a pleasure to see both in person. :D I'm more than happy to lend a hand whenever I can.

John,

So, this is what it looks like. Very nicely done! :ymapplause: :ymapplause: I like how you wrapped it around your work area. I'm jealous you have a harbor area. Thanks for sharing, finally, =))

Hi john. Layout photos are great. Looks to be well thought out and constructed in a logical manner. You sure can get a lot of modeling when utilizing Nscale. Bye-the-way, how did you make out with that sound installation in your switching loco? Insitu or in a trailing freight car?
Although i am currently visiting in Europe, since March, I will be returning to the States on May 11th and hope to start building some structures. I've got the urge to get the old layout down from the garage and work on it with the grandkids.
Regards,
Dick

Thanks for the interest and feedback.

I never did proceed with the "N scale sound in a trailing car" project. I sent emails to several sound installers and only one seemed to have any interest and he seemed more interested in the concept of a dummy loco - which really doesn't provide the same solution. It's not that high on the priority list right now and I'll pursue it some day if it doesn't show up in an ad before I get to it. It seemed like a sensible product for an untapped niche.

Please share layout photos everyone...As I've demonstrated, magazine quality isn't required...John
