Doug, I wanted to tell you about an amazing occurrence this week that was prompted by one of your kits!

From about 1926-1986 my Grandfather and his brothers, and then my uncle in the later years, ran an electrical/radio and eventually TV shop back in a small market town in England. I purchased your Pessman's Radio kit with the specific intention of honoring my Grandfathers memory on my layout. I did not have any picture of the shop so I called my Dad back in England and asked him. Unbeknown to me, he in turn asked my 2nd Cousin, who has been acting as the family archivist. Well out of the blue I received a package from the UK with my family tree going back to the 1700's, several written accounts and photos and the promise that I am to inherit the family archive! I have always been interested in these things, and I am the eldest and one of only 3 who are carrying the family name forward, but it was really the catalyst of your kit that set this chain of events in motion.

So thank-you for your innovative imagination and for developing this kit.
Simon

Simon,

Thanks for sharing that story and glad to hear our kit was involved. It just underlines that these kits, especially when built are like artwork or photographs, that serve as a somekind of record that can trigger inspiration and memories.

Regarding footprint sizes, we'll be updating the site soon and will add footprint sizes for each kit, sorry about that. Just one of those things that gets missed...

Doug, is the 'ironfront' all done with the laser cutter, or are you also using some castings? Looks great, and it's a building that I could easily backdate to my 1890s era layout.

The storefront is completely lasercut. If you've built our Army & Navy Shop or Pressman Radio Repair, it's very similar. The front is made up of two layers of plywood and the pilasters are cut from 1/8" wood. It's a very simple assembly process.

As with all of our kits, scenery, figures & vehicles/trucks are not included. What's included are all the details that you see in the photo, all of the signage, the structure, the canopy above the gas pumps, the gas pumps, the laser cut lettering and Mud Flap Girl, corruagted roofing and fencing, rolled paper roofing, templates and NorthEastern lumber to build the signage assembly and Tichy doors and windows. Hope that helps.

The trip definately left some impressions...stopping for gas in the middle of the desert with lots of tractor trailers, for one. They'll probably be a few more trip inspired kits within the next few months. ...
