Help Cutting Out N-Scale Doors & Windows

I have the Micro Mark corner punch and it worked very well. I've only used it for one structure, since I'm not much of a scratchbuilder. I was concerned as well as to how long it would stay sharp, but was as sharp at the end (probably 15 or so windows/doors) as the beginning. Not having a drill press at the time, I gently tapped it with a small hammer to cut the corners out over a mat.

Jim, chisel blades might work better for wood, Since i work mostly in paper I'm primarily interested in doing just the corners. then i kind of connect the dots. personal experience though, this works real good. and yes it is dangerous.

I've never used one.

I've thought of getting an inexpensive wood carving chisel cut to 90 degrees.

Currently I use a small metal machinist square...........I think Micro Mark shows one....... and VERY sharp NEW number 11 blades and work along the square from each window corner. I can do a complete structure wall layout with window cut outs in about an hour. The trick is to use the square along the outside edges of the structure before roof angles are cut and wall are stood up. Mostly I use Grandt Line castings and they have a location on their website with the exact dimensions of the rough openings necessary for all of their doors and windows; given in thousandths.

I have a set of those, I used them once and never use them again. The old fashion #11 and a scale ruler is hard to beat

I have had success by drilling a hole in each of the four corners of the window or door area to be cut out. Using a #11 blade, I carefully make a cut from the each hole just inside the outline of the door or window and use a small file to remove the remaining material up to the outline of the door or window.
