I AM BROKE RAILROAD LINE

I AM BROKE RAILROAD LINE

Postby GoldenRailHead » Tue Oct 12, 2010 3:24 pm

I would like to explain just a little bit about my “layout”. First, the railroad is called “I Am Broke Railroad Line”. Two, our home is on the Gulf O Mexico (Galveston, Texas) so it is elevated on piles some 18 feet up in the air and this area is used for parking. All the bedrooms are reserved for our self’s, my son and daughter and their families, when they visit….so that leaves my layout to a small area in our hunting, fishing, surfing, beach combing/ & office/ room. The size is just for me….a little larger that 2’ wide by approximately 6’ long (I hope to post a picture of the layout-in progress in the near future). By the way, the layout looks goods when viewed from a point about 100 feet away from it.

If I lose the layout to a hurricane….big deal. My collection of rail cars and limited c\selection of steam engines are kept in plastic storage units that can be placed in a truck or trailer when we know we need to evacuate due to a hurricane.

Some might say,…..gee, look at all the sand you have for your layout. That sand has tar balls on it (like the oil and that you have seen coming ashore in Louisiana.

I look forward to seeing some photos
Is the layout N or Z?

Interesting concept. IABRL? Should look interesting on a station steam loco tender... are you planning to do some painting & decaling of the railroad's name?

It is N Scale. With regard to the name...I thought I would have steam engines from other lines.....no particular railroad is being modeled.

I guess if one has a steam engine on one’s layout, it is obliquity to have a water tower. I looked at the kits available and made a decision to try to scratch build one

This was made from strip-wood and the spout came from Micron-Art, located in Austin Texas (good folks). Now I have to try to find a place on the layout (good planning on my part).

Any thoughts on improvements would be appreciated.

Neat design... what's your prototype? Did you work from prints (probably so, but thought I'd ask about details). Any chance for a couple more pixes, close-up and different angle?

I imagine with it's tall, but small profile, you should be able to find a spot near a station, along a siding, for a water stop. And, your layout is a more modern one, with just the token steam loco, like mine is (just one for the occasional excursion), I'm going to have a water truck or fire dept pumper come alongside to do the filling. That's how Santa Fe 3951 got filled at one excursion; had it on a video long ago and thought that was cool.

What a great little structure. Nice job on the build. :ymapplause: :-B :ymapplause: It looks like it should fit anywhere on the layout!
