FSM Water Tower

FSM Water Tower

Postby fos » Thu Mar 20, 2008 5:50 pm

I've been working on this FSM water tower recently and it's turning out to be one of my favorite kits to build. It's not quite finished; still need to add the spout, and some details. I really like the detail in the stone work combined with the board by board ...I substituted the scribed sheet of wood that is inlcuded for the wider 2x10 boards, they just seem to look better.

I got some advice from Scott M. on how to get that white washed board look...just a few strokes of white acrylic diluted with water...

I'm sure some of you might have already built this kit, but I 've never built any of George's earlier kits, interesting to find a newspaper dated from 1985, used as stuffing in the box, ...having a great time building it. I'll post more pics when it's further along...

Doug- it looks great. I built this one over 30 years ago and still rank it very high on fun builds list. Now I know what you do in your spare time for R&R- build a kit! Your new kits look great! Mike E.

Looks good, Doug. I have the one similar to Mike's although I have not put it together yet. Am saving it for a diorama that includes FSM Station and FSM Sand House. I like working on George's kits from any era as you always know what you are going to get.

Howdy,

Very nice Doug, first class....that kits brings back memories. It was my first FSM build. It has weathered four layouts, and I still have it!

Mike, your variation looks nice, too.

Best regards,
mike

Very nice job on both of these kits guys! I missed a number of years while the kids were growing up so I missed this one. ( I do have a few others tho!)
I'm sure going to enjoy following along nonetheless!

Hi.Thanks for the comments. This is the second FSM kit that I didn't screw up. The first 5 or so were the first craftsman kits I ever built, in 1999-2002, and they all served as a learning experience... I ruined Jeffries Stave & heading, Seafood Emp., Franklin Watch works, Roadside Delights and Stuffy's...all ended up over weathered & poorly assembled...wow, wish I didn't just list those, that was really expensive..huh... anyway I'll justify it as tuition costs at FSM College...the pile driver is the other kit I din't screw up, also a big favorite....

Doug

hey Larry, any chance you can email me some of that 70 degree weather?

I guess some of us had to go to college, and some of us didn't! :D

Hi Doug

I ruin a few FSM kits myself. But I keeep them anyway. If it wasn't for the ruined ones I wouldn't have any dioramas at all. I'll send you a crate of oranges and some 70 degree weather as soon as you finish that kit you are going to name after me.
