New Five-Foot Wheelbase Archbar Truck in HO

New Five-Foot Wheelbase Archbar Truck in HO

Postby DarkTerritory » Tue Mar 29, 2011 3:24 pm

I know there's not a lot of early period modelers on here, but I wanted to mention that Tahoe Model Works this week has introduced a new HO scale five-foot wheelbase archbar truck. I've seen photos of it and it looks great! According to the press release it has 20-ton bearings and journals, a composite bolster and a spring plank. It is based on a truck made for Union Tank Line in 1895 and has inside-hung brakes, similar to what you see on most modern trucks. The trucks retail for about $7.25 and include either standard RP-25 metal wheelsets OR semi-finescale code 88 wheelsets, same price.

These trucks are great for early period cars like mine but are also very useful for logging railroad equipment as well. If the first run sells well I have heard they will consider doing some other early types as well, perhaps a Fox pressed steel truck. So if you can use some of these please go out and buy some, and help those of us in the early period and logging railroad groups!

Missed this when posted originally, the fox trucks would be of great interest to me, don't know about the 5' archbars but I do need some woodbeam trucks for passenger cars!

Craig...

Thanx for the heads up..........

I stop at 1913 when the Boise Nampa & Owyhee RR was fully absorbed into the Oregon Short Line. So I have equipment that runs from you Amesville box car up to the pre-USRA stuff of the teens.

My track work is a mix of code 70 and 100 with a lot of hand lay track with stub, single point trolley and sliding point turnouts. Translations: lot of options for stuff to fall off of the iron.

Good trucks and metal wheels are a requirement on my pike. Metal wheels are also essential for good operation with DCC.

Thanx

I got some of these (with the semi-scale wheelsets) and they look and roll great! Please buy lots, so Tahoe will be convinced to come out with other early rail prototype trucks.

I don't think they have a website. You can get info from Brian Leppert at this email address brianleppert@att.net
