My wife and I agreed that Ii need to devote more train resources to the appearance of the layout. So, I went out and got new paint and repainted the facia with a semi gloss black to replace the flat black. It looks better and will clean up easier. We then went to the fabric store to purchase black broadcloth to hang under the layout and cover up all the crap under it. I am still in sticker shock at the price of cheap fabric...$4 a yard. We bought 48 feet of the stuff for 64 bucks. That should do most of the area between Rockport and Hetchel...maybe even to Ox Bow curve. I'll have to do this a little at a time as I have a lot of underpinnings to hide, but I am sure it will make a big difference. My SIL has "volunteered" to do all the hemming, as long as I buy her lunch at Wegman's. She works down the road, so she can stop by my office to pick the material up.

Hueber stopped by to pick up an article copied from the "library" and view the progress on the LV. He came up with a whole list of things that need to be done. Seems he is behind and needs to spend less time with the GF and more time in my basement! :D He was happy with the progress, and agreed with me on the need for the layout skirting now that that are above has a more finished look.

Ralph: you should check the cloth you're using for flammability. This is an issue we had with the Hub Modular group - the fire marshall at some venue wanted confirmation that our skirts had been treated to be fire retardant. This might not be a big thing at home with a cotton skirt, but I know some of the synthetic fabrics will burn scary fast when not treated - one of the early consumer safety issues was kids pjs being made with these fabrics...

James, a good point, but the skirting will not be near anything flammable. I feel confident about that.

I'll have you know, I have great underpinnings. :D But below the layout still needs to be covered. Slim, visiting? No problem. We don't open the door. :D Besides, he smells like a hoagie. We can smell him a mile before he gets here and lock the door.
